This is the third of three posts written in conversation with Winnifred Fallers Sullivan, Elizabeth Shakman Hurd, and Saba Mahmood on the intellectual roots of the Chicago Council Report, “Engaging Religious Communities Abroad: A New Imperative for U.S. Foreign Policy.”  The title is a reference to Mahmood Mamdani, Good Muslim, Bad Muslim: America, the Cold War, and the Roots of Terror.
